With children in my household, what is the proper temperature to set my water heater?

To prevent scalding, your water heater should be set to no more than 110 degrees Fahrenheit or 43 degrees Celsius. It's fairly easy to set the temperature on an electric water heater. There are usually two covers.

Remove the bottom cover. There'll be a thermostat that has a numerical reading. Turn it down to 10 to protect your children. If a thermostat gets old and malfunctions, your children are at risk of scalding water.

An additional benefit of keeping your water heater's thermostat set to a lower temperature is energy savings!
