FORT MYERS, FL - (September 27, 2021) – On the morning of August 16, Dunbar High School senior Mia Santiago had an experience she will never forget. Following the daily Pledge of Allegiance, Mia fell to the floor, became unresponsive, and was unable to breathe. Though Mia died on the floor of her classroom, her teacher had fortunately just been trained on the brand new Centegix CrisisAlert system recently installed by United Mechanical in every Lee County school. With just three clicks of the teacher’s CrisisAlert badge, the staff alert feature was activated, and trained staff members arrived in seconds performing CPR on Mia until the paramedics arrived.
Mia was rushed to the hospital where doctors noted that had it not been for the quick action of the Dunbar staff, using the CrisisAlert system, Mia Santiago would not be here today. Thankfully, Mia has made a full recovery and is in awe of the staff, police officers, and paramedics who saved her life and enabled her to walk across the stage to complete her senior year.
